Subject Expertise Development Training – Music – Southampton
In primary schools, teachers are required to teach the full breadth of the curriculum and primary have a wealth of knowledge, skills and expertise at their fingertips to aid them in delivering high quality teaching and learning.
However, the demands of the 2014 National Curriculum and more recently the 2019 Ofsted framework, place enormous expectation on subject leaders’ subject knowledge and expertise. For a school curriculum to work seamlessly and effectively, key concepts in the subject must be identified and the learning must be carefully sequenced and slowly and progressively built upon year on year.
To do all of this, subject leaders need to be experts in their subject. This programme is designed to slowly develop primary subject leaders into subject specific experts with oversight of the curriculum in their subject and the leadership skills to impart their knowledge and expertise to teachers and enable them to teach the subject well so that children become fully secure in the knowledge and skills of the subject. After some initial introductory training subject leaders will have the opportunity to attend regular workshops with subject experts who will gradually share their expertise and develop them into experts in their own right.
